Studio Policies

Our policies ensure a productive learning environment for all students. Please read carefully before enrollment.

1. Lesson Length

  1. Lesson length varies depending on age and skills of the student.
  2. Five to six year old beginners take 30 or 45 minute lessons per week.
  3. Seven year old and older students take 45, 60, or 90 minute lessons per week.
  4. All students are required to take at least one lesson per week in their teaching term.
  5. All students must complete the minimum homework as prescribed by the teacher in accordance with their grade.

2. Lesson Scheduling

  1. Lessons are scheduled in accordance with Queensland school term dates (typically 9-11 weeks per term).
  2. Lessons may also be scheduled during Queensland school vacation periods if the teacher is available.
  3. Lessons are reserved for specific timeslots which occur on a weekly basis.
  4. Lesson time cannot be extended due to late arrival.
  5. Extra lessons are available upon request (e.g., before an exam or competition).
  6. If a scheduled lesson coincides with a public holiday, the lesson would still take place as it would if there was not a public holiday. The standard 24 hour notice rule (Cancellations & Make-up Lessons, section 4 below) applies for cancellations during holiday periods.
  7. If a student should decide not to continue lessons at any given time during the year, a 1 month notice is required. No refund will be provided.
  8. The teacher reserves the right to terminate lessons with any student for any reason, and this may include unpaid fees, frequent absences, behavioral issues, and destruction or damage to studio property.

3. Payment Terms

  1. Tuition fees must be paid in advance for either a half-term (approximately 5 weeks) or full term before lessons commence. Failure to pay on time results in a $10 late administrative fee.
  2. Tuition covers not only the actual lesson time spent with the student, but the time preparing for each student's lesson as well. This includes, but is not limited to:
    • Individually planning for each student's course of study
    • Printing materials
    • Repertoire planning
  3. Pro-rata adjustments will be made if a student commences tuition in the middle of a month.
  4. Tuition fees will be reviewed at the beginning of each calendar year and may increase at that time in accordance with general inflation and other relevant market factors.

4. Cancellations & Make-up Lessons

  1. Each student will have a lesson timeslot reserved for the term and it is their responsibility to attend lessons on time.
  2. If a student is unable to attend their lesson timeslot and wants to cancel, they must give notice at least 24 hours in advance (unless it's an emergency) of the scheduled lesson start time and provide an acceptable reason.
    • Acceptable reasons: School camps, sickness (medical certificate may be required), or extreme family circumstances.
    • Not acceptable: Sport activities or family events.
  3. A lesson cancelled with at least 24 hours notice and an acceptable reason will be rescheduled. Each student is allowed one re-scheduling per term (this cannot be transferred to the subsequent term). The lesson is considered to have been given if the student misses the scheduled make-up lesson for any reason.
  4. The teacher will provide a time schedule for make-up lessons and the student must select a time from that schedule.
  5. If a student fails to attend a lesson, or a lesson is cancelled without at least 24 hours notice and without an acceptable reason, then the lesson will be forfeited and the regular tuition fee still charged.
  6. If the teacher is unable to attend a lesson, the lesson will be made up at a mutually agreed time with the student.

5. Practice Requirements

Success in piano requires consistent daily practice:

  • Beginner students: Minimum 30 minutes daily practice
  • Intermediate students: Minimum 45 minutes daily practice
  • Advanced & exam preparation students: Minimum 60 minutes daily practice

Parents of students under age 12 are expected to supervise and ensure practice occurs daily.

We reserve the right to amend this policy at any time, and will notify all students and parents of any amendments as they occur.

Note: Full studio policy document will be provided upon enrollment.
